Skinner Music Library

History

The Music Library was originally housed in Frasier Hall. Over time, the University's School of Music grew in both volume and prestige. As the School of Music grew, so did the library collections. The need for a larger and more exemplary space was needed, and a new building was constructed. The new Music Library building opened in October 1997.

Named for

Howard Skinner, one of the university's most distinguished professors who in his 42 years at UNC contributed to the performing and visual arts department, including the university's award-winning music department.

Current Use

The facility houses collections of music, literature on music, and recordings as well as media and conference rooms.
