History
Kepner was built to accommodate the University's successful model school. The Model School was a live training school for the students of the Normal School. Children from kindergarten through high school were bused in for UNC students to practice their teaching skills. Because Kepner Hall housed the Model School, it was known as the Training School. The original part of the building was constructed in 1912. The west and the east wings were added in 1923 and 1924 respectively. The Training or Laboratory School was eventually moved to Bishop-Lehr. Kepner then served many different needs of UNC for years after. The building was renovated in 1987.
