Gray Hall

History

The building was completed in 1916 and was originally known as the "Women's Club." The facility was originally restricted to women, but soon granted equal use to men. Additions were constructed in the late '30s and early '40s. The building continued to be a student union until 1964. Gray Hall was later renovated to become primarily an office building.

 

Named for

This building is named after the school's first president, Thomas J. Gray. Thomas Gray was President from 1890-1891.

 

Current Use

Gray Hall is the home to the UNC Police Department, Parking Services and Telephone Services. The west end of the building is home to the Norton Theatre, the "Smallest Theater of the Rockies", other practice rooms and a multi-purpose gym.
