ATEP Program Director
Shannon Courtney serves as the Athletic Training Program Director, a position she has held for 13 years. Prior to 2006, she also served eight years in a dual role as the head athletic trainer for UNC athletics after she served seven years as an assistant athletic trainer under former head athletic trainer and Northern Colorado Athletic Hall of Fame member Dan Libera.
Courtney earned her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Northern Colorado in athletic training and also was a member of UNC's women's tennis team, earning all-conference honors her junior year. She then served as a graduate assistant at UNC, obtaining her master's degree in Kinesiology.
Courtney went on to work for the Denver Broncos Sportsmedicine clinics and also served as an assistant athletic trainer for Colorado College in Colorado Springs before returning to the athletic training staff at Northern Colorado.
Courtney is a certified athletic trainer and also serves as UNC's athletic training program director, educating student athletic trainers. Courtney is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers Association, and Colorado Athletic Trainers Association.
Courtney and her husband Jay have two boys, Payton and Corte.
