OBJECTIVES FOR THE PROGRAM
- Provide a basis for education, clinical experience, and research for the undergraduate student that is interested in pursuing and entering the allied health profession of athletic training.
- Provide experiences in a variety of clinical settings, under supervision, to ensure the
athletic training student meets the entry-level standards of a certified athletic trainer.
- Develop professionalism, confidence and appropriate decision making skills through a combination of clinical course work and varied athletic field experiences.
- Demonstrate positive outcomes in a highly competitive educational program that prepares the student athletic trainer to successfully pass the
BOC exam and work with and provide care to the physically active in a traditional and non traditional settings.
- Demonstrate successful completion of clinical proficiencies, outlined in the
BOC Role Delineation Study, 5th Edition, throughout a 5 semester
athletic training education program.

ATHLETIC TRAINING EDUCATION PROGRAM
- All duties and procedures are limited to acceptable techniques as approved by team physicians and/or clinical instructors. All actions should be on a sound kinesiological and therapeutic basis. Thus when comparing or contrasting various techniques, you must have the knowledge of How? Why? and When? before proceeding.
- Students are expected to adhere to professional and ethical standards as established by both UNC and the National Athletic Trainers Association.
- Conduct and professional appearance of
athletic training students will be established. When at practices, competitions, or team travel, these policies are supplemented by those maintained by the particular team, coach, and clinical instructor approved by the clinical program.
- All policies, duties, and procedures will be further detailed and periodically updated through observation, discussion, workshops, handouts, meetings, supplemental reading, related
class work, competencies and other methods. It is expected that you will keep yourself informed and updated of all policies and procedures. This is YOUR responsibility.
- You are REQUIRED to follow all policies, procedures, and guidelines. Failure to do so can result in suspension and/or dismissal from the clinical program as well as affect your clinical practicum grade.
- If you have questions, concerns, or suggestions relative to the athletic training clinical program or your specific progress towards competent knowledge, skills, attitudes, or responsibilities, do not hesitate to discuss these with your supervising
clinical instructor(s), the program director, or
the clinical coordinator.
