40 Canada Red Chokecherry

(Prunus virginiana ”Schubert”)

Canada red chokecherry is a pyramidal tree that grows 20 to 30 feet in height, or as a shrub. It has moderate water needs, and prefers full sun and well-drained soil. The fruit, while astringent, can be used to make jellies. Suckering tends to be a problem with this species, and tent caterpillars love this tree, which can be another drawback.
