sequence of courses

This program is highly individualized to meet the students’ needs and focuses on two aspects.  One is your specific content (i.e. English) and the other is the Professional Teacher Education Program (PTEP).  You will need to meet with your content advisor with your transcripts to do a course evaluation (take/do not take) form.  This will let you know what exactly you will need to be sufficient in content.  Additionally the PTEP core will give you the teaching knowledge you need to be successful.  The PTEP sequence must be achieved as follows:

    1. Take the Educator’s Summer Session (this comprises of 12 credits and a checkpoint course called EDFE 125).  Upon completion of this you may move to number two. You may start taking content courses before the Summer block.
    2. Take the EDFE 544 (Practicum) and EDF 500 (Foundations of Education) concurrently on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  You will be teaching in a background role in the school with practicum, which is a 225 hour requirement.  On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday you may take Content and/or Methods Courses as available.  When you have completed EDFE 544 and EDF 500 you will move to number 3.
    3. Take all remaining Content Coursework that your Content Advisor has recommended and sign up for the checkpoint course, EDFE 130 (the semester prior to EDFE 555 (Student Teaching)
    4. Once you have completed all Content Coursework, the Methods course(s), and PTEP core (except EDFE 555, Student Teaching) you will be able to commit to EDFE 555 Student Teaching.  Student Teaching is a 16 week full time commitment in a school of your choice, anywhere in the world (as long as we can place you there).  Student Teaching may not be done in the Summer.
    5. You will then be able to apply for your teacher license upon the completion of your PTEP core, Content Core, and fulfillment of checkpoint courses (including passing the PLACE or PRAXIS II test).
