Instructions for on-line application and supplemental materials

Dear Prospective UNC Student,

You may begin your online application immediately. However, it will benefit you to read through these instructions designed specifically for the Elementary Postbac program. You may also print them out and use as a guide.

  1. Once you click on the link above, look for the link on the left that says New Applicant User Login.  Then you will be prompted through the process. 
  2. You will select Graduate Application.
  3. You will select Summer 2009 for the Admission Term
  4. Please enter the appropriate information for
  • Name
  • Mailing Address & Phone
  • Permanent Address & Phone
  • Personal Information
  • Emergency Contact Information
  1. Regarding your Planned Course of Study:
    You have two options here. 
  • a.  If you are applying for your Teacher Licensure only, please select Teacher Licensure: Elementary Education and move on.  Make sure that “No” is selected under the drop down menu.
  • b.  If you are also planning on applying for the Masters of Arts in Teaching as well as your Teacher Licensure, please select Education:  Elementary Education MAT.  Then you will begin the “licensure in addition to your degree program” and select “Yes” under the drop down menu.  Then you will select the “Next Program” button and go to the scroll down menu again and select Elementary Education.
  1. Continue entering information for Previous College and Additional Information.
  2. Under the field “Additional Information” is where you will choose your cohort location.  If you are going to apply for more than one cohort location, please list your preferences in order of preference from highest to lowest at the data field where it says: “I am applying for a program offered at (enter one of the following):”  You may enter the site(s) you would like to attend in this data field.  For instance, Loveland, Denver Metro Area, Main Campus- Greeley would signify that your choices (in order) are Loveland (1), Denver (2), Greeley (3).
  3. You will then pay for and submit your online application.  Congratulations!

Your appliation will be evaluated with the Application Criteria Rubric. Do not complete it, this is for your information only. If you have any additional information to include or mention, you may email Linda Ketels at Linda.ketels@unco.edu with your information.  Please be as clear and concise as possible and include your name, contact information, and pertinent information. Here is an application checklist to help you make sure that you have submitted all of the components of the application.

Application checklist

  • __Online application submitted.  Go to https://www.unco.edu/applications/graduate/index.aspx to complete your application.  (this will also include the application fee which you will submit with your application.) 
  • __Two official transcripts from each university you have attended.
  • __Three letters of recommendation addressing your potential as a graduate student and your potential as a teacher.  You may have your references submit a standard “To Whom it May Concern” letter or you may utilize the UNC form letter. Print it out and give it to the person writing the letter.  Please, give them an envelope with the address above, have them complete the letter, sign the sealed envelope on the seal, and send it in with the correct postage either back to you to place in your application package or directly to UNC’s Graduate School.
  • __ Candidate Letter (up to 500 words) addressing your potential as a graduate student and teacher.  Why do you want to be an elementary teacher?  What can you bring to the classroom?
