Tom Griggs

Dr. Griggs has been a member of the Teacher Education faculty since Fall, 2000, where he is currently Associate Professor of Foundations of Education and ESL/Bilingual Education. He earned his AB in Theater Arts from the University of California at Santa Cruz, his M.Ed. in Secondary Teaching and his MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages at UCLA, and, in 1996, his Ph. D. in Teacher Education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto. Before becoming a teacher educator, Tom worked as a business owner and manager in the wholesale natural foods business and as a professional actor.

Since arriving in Northern Colorado, he has wholeheartedly embraced his new home, getting heavily involved in serving both his profession and his community as an educator. Beyond his love of teaching, he was president of the Colorado Association for Bilingual Education (CABE) in 2002-2003, when Colorado became the first state to defeat an anti-bilingual education ballot initiative. In 2006, he ran for Colorado Fourth Congressional District representative to the State Board of Education. Currently, he serves on the Higher Education in Linguistically Diverse Education (HELDE) advisory committee to the Colorado Department of Education and the Latino Education Task Force in the Poudre School District in Fort Collins, where he resides with his two children.
