Summer Visitor Housing FAQ
Following are some common inquiries regarding Summer Visitor (Short Term) Housing at UNC's Hansen-Willis ("HW") Hall. If you have further questions, please call (970) 351-2070. PLEASE NOTE: UNC DO-IT Center, Teaching with Primary Sources, and Extended Studies course registrants should instead refer to your own registration website.
How are HW accommodations arranged and charged ? Each suite contains two rooms which share a common living area and bathroom. Each room contains two twin-size beds which are not bunk-stacked. Renting at the Double Rate ($25.50/night per person) means sharing (potentially) a room and a suite; renting at the Single Rate ($35.50/nighth per person) means having a room with two twin beds to yourself, but sharing (potentially) a suite. Any two persons sharing a room will each be charged the Double Rate (if they're not initially booked at the Suite Rate). Any two persons sharing the suite as two Single rooms will each be charged the Single rate (if they're not initially booked at the Suite Rate).
Who qualifies for the Family Suite Rate? Any person or combination of persons may rent/share a suite at the Family Suite Rate of $60.00/night for the suite itself, but only on an as-booked basis (if initially reserved as such). In other words, persons initially reserving a Single or Double cannot later combine to convert to the Family Suite Rate. If paid by credit card, a single card account must be used for the entire Suite rental payment; we cannot accept split payments for the same Suite.
What linens are provided at HW? We will provide sheets, blankets, mattress cover pads, pillows/cases, towels and washcloths. All linens may be exchanged for fresh ones at the HW front desk at any time.
Is HW air conditioned? Yes, central air throughout the facility.
Will my HW room/suite include a TV? No, but you may bring your own TV and cable to connect to a free basic cable service outlet available in each HW suite. The first floor common (lounge) area has a large-screen television for your use at any time, as well.
Will my HW room/suite include a phone? Phones are provided in Summer Visitor Housing rooms for free local and on-campus calls. Long-distance calls will require your own calling card.
What about HW Internet connection? Land-line Internet is available for a single $10 hookup fee per person for your entire stay (non-refundable, regardless of whether internet was used or not during the stay). You may reserve and pay for your internet connection at time of reservation, or at any point during your stay. You will be asked for your IP address at time of check-in. Please allow up to 24 hours internet hookup following connection fee payment. Each bed has a hookup jack located nearby.
Wireless internet is available in some locations on campus (the University Center, Michener Library, etc.), but not in the dorms, including HW. Use of campus computers is open to everyone in Michener Library during library summer hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. University Center Computer Commons is open 24 hours, 7 days only to registered UNC students with a Bear # ID.
Are there kitchen facilities at HW? Individual rooms/suites do not have kitchenettes at HW. However, there is a full kitchen on the first floor, available for anyone's use at any time. Stove, refrigerator, microwave, and sink are included. No dishes, pans or utensils are provided. (Again--if you are in a conference utilizing another residence hall such as Lawrenson, please refer to your own specific conference registration site for details.)
What about Microfridges? These microwave/dorm-size refrigerator combinations are available for a single $45 delivery/rental fee per microfridge for your entire stay (non-refundable, regardless of whether or not unit was used during the stay). One microfridge may be shared per room or per two-room suite, if desired. You may reserve and pay for your microfridge rental at time of reservation, or at any point during your stay. Please allow up to 24 hours for delivery following microfridge rental payment.
How far is HW from campus dining facilities? HW is directly across the street from the University Center Dining Hall (open for lunch M-F and some dinners), and approximately one block from Holmes Dining Hall (open every day for all meals except Sunday dinner). Summer Visitor Housing guests are free to use these facilities on a cash-per-meal basis.

What are check-in and out hours for HW? Can I check in or out before or after these hours if necessary? Check in starts at 3:00 pm daily; check-out ends at 10:00 am daily. However, should you need to arrive or leave at a more convenient time (such as a late night flight) or need to leave your luggage for awhile after check-out time in order to finish up a final class session, just let our reservation and/or front desk staff know in advance and we'll be happy to accommodate you.
What credit cards does UNC accept? We accept MasterCard, Visa, and Discover. (We do not accept American Express, Diner's Club, or other cards.)
