Spring Break Service Trip (SBST)

The students at the University of Northern Colorado have a long history and tradition of attending spring break service trips.  This is a testament to the uniqueness of UNC and the students who choose to go to school here.

During the 2004-2005 academic year, the Student Activities office changed the service trip name from Alternative Spring Break to Spring Break Service Trip.  We decided to change the name for several reasons:

1)  Choosing to participate in a service trip is not an alternative to anything – it is a choice.  UNC students choose to participate in service trips because they want to give back to their greater community.  Students make the conscious decision to be of service to others, not because they have no other alternatives.

2)  The name “Spring Break Service Trip” better reflects the true mission of the trip.  Students choose to serve others for one week during their Spring Break.  It is the spirit of service that makes the Spring Break Service Trips memorable.

Past SBST sites have included Los Angeles, Detroit, Santa Cruz, CA, Hurricane, UT and even far away, exotic places like Denver!  During the 2005-2006 academic year, UNC students showed their altruist spirit by sending 125 students to New Orleans to assist with the recovery and rebuilding efforts after Hurricane Katrina devastated the entire Gulf Coast region.

The Student Activities office is excited to offer this unique opportunity to UNC students and we are grateful that you are considering participating in a service trip this year.
