Catalyst: a Social Justice Retreat Spring ‘10
Are you curious about race in the US? Do you want to learn more about multiculturalism and cross-cultural issues? Do you want to be empowered to engage in difficult conversations surrounding identity?
Then join us for the first annual Catalyst Social Justice Retreat to be held from January 15-17, 2010 in Estes Park (Transportation, Lodging, and Meals are provided). This year’s theme is “Creating change”.We are looking for faculty, staff, and students to join us in this unique and engaging opportunity.
Catalyst is an opportunity for students to expand their awareness on issues of diversity and cross-cultural communication. The retreat enables participants to spend time in a safe environment focusing on self-reflection, education, and personal growth regarding their perceptions of social justice, multicultural, and global issues. Catalyst’s ultimate goal is to give students the skills to act on the issues and causes that they are most passionate about. And to empower students to engage in difficult conversations surrounding race, intersection of identity, and power and privilege in our society.
The cost to participants is free. All applications must be received by November 20, 2009. There are a limited number of spots available so apply early.
*If you are faculty, staff, or a graduate student at UNC, consider applying to be a facilitator for one of the small groups during the Catalystretreat.
