What’s McDonald’s Got to Do With It? Explaining American Culture Using Fast Food
This lecture will analyze contemporary American Society by critiquing modern culture, values and norms. Then we will ask whether or not American society has become “McDonaldized”, resembling the popular fast food chain, McDonald’s. We will discuss how our social institutions function and what the implications are for our culture, human interaction and identity.

What Cherry Tree? The Mythology of Washington and the Founding Fathers
Did young George Washington really chop down a cherry tree and throw a dollar across the Potomac? We’ll consider this and other beliefs that have emerged about Washington, Jefferson, and Franklin and ask what these historical figures and their legends mean to us in 2008.
