Charge to Council

Investment in the success of our students through quality academic enrichment and closely linked support services captures the spirit of a learning community (Charting the Future, final report May, 2004).   Through CTF, the Commission on Student Success recommended better communication about the range and quality of services available to students at UNC.  Student Services units across the campus would become better connected with the development of an advisory/communication team.

The Student Success Advisory Council, chaired by the Dean of Students, will consist of one representatives from each of the following offices: Student Activities, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Residence Life, Athletics, Campus Recreation, CHE’s Student Support Services program, International Student Services, Disability Student Services, Career Services, Women’s Resource Center, Admissions, Counseling Center, Cumbres, Enrichment Programs, Academic Support and Advising, SRC- AVP for Student Affairs, Financial Aid, and the Registrar’s office.   The creation of a campus-wide Student Services Advisory Council will-

  • Improve information dissemination  and general communication on relevant student services issues to the campus, such as policy decisions and available services for students;
  • Address Student Services Staff professional development needs and opportunities, particularly in the areas of diversity, student development, the legal and ethical issues related to student services and assessment; and
  • Collaboratively help address campus-wide retention issues of currently enrolled students.
