SRC NEWSLETTER

V. P. of Student Organizations Bob Vincent
This semester, I have been hard at work ensuring that almost any area of student interest had a club to support it. This semester, SRC chartered 147 student organizations.  My Associate Vice Presidents are working on calculating how many students are reported on their rosters.  The goal of this is to be able to say, “23% of the student body belongs to a club.”  Not only could this help advertise the level of importance SRC and UNC puts on keeping students involved, but could also aid SRC in securing more student fee’s when SFAP comes around. Many clubs apply for SRC funding in order to help them hold events and put on club activities.  This semester, 96 clubs applied for funding.  I worked to ensure that clubs were requesting fair and accurate budgets. Clubs requested $168,548.02, and after careful review by the Student Organizations Team, were awarded $138,882.82.  What this means is clubs were awarded on average 82% of what they requested.  However, SRC only had $30,594.12 to award clubs which means they could only receive 27% of what the S.O.T. felt they should receive. We are working on securing more funding for the future to better serve UNC’s clubs.

V.P. for University Relations Adriane Zachary
I have planned the SRC Fireside Chat, the town hall meeting. This was for students to come and voice their opinions, suggestions, and concerns about student issues. I also worked with the Vice President for Academic Affairs to advertise Spring Conference Grants. Our efforts were very successful as we received more applications this semester then we have in the past couple semesters. I have been working on a Safe Ride initiative and committee this semester. I am very excited about this. It has been very well received and is gaining much interest. I am in the process of planning the end of the year banquet. At the banquet we will be recognizing an outstanding student for Student Recognition Day. I am also writing up a Spring SRC newsletter, this will be posted on the SRC website for student viewing. I am helping to plan a great Earth Day celebration that will be held here at the UC on April 22. Another great event that SRC will be participating in is March Can Madness. We will collect cans to be donated to the Weld Food Bank! I am working with the Down Town Development Authority Student Group to get students going to the downtown area of Greeley. I am helping the Student Trustee with his Text Book Task Force Campaign. One of my most important tasks this semester is raising awareness about Student Council. I am attending PASC, SPEEC and Presidents Planning Committee meetings to represent the Student Representative Council. Lastly, I am working with the elections commissioner on new and attractive ways to advertise the upcoming elections.

Student Trustee Mason Smith
This semester I have worked on a textbook campaign led by the Associated Students of Colorado. The textbook campaign seeks to remedy structural problems in the textbook market at the campus and stateJune 20, 2008g which students had the opportunity to write to their legislators requesting support on a bill, which is currently making its way through the CO legislature. The campaign has received substantial coverage in campus and local media print as well as local radio. I made an official presentation to the board of trustees, which unanimously endorsed the campaign and its goals.I have served as an executive for the Associated Students of Colorado. As Director of External Affairs, I was charged with rallying and recruiting students statewide for ASC-sponsored events and informing media of our work. These activities included two press conferences and a Senate Education Committee event. Furthermore, I organized and chaired the UCAB meetings, where we focused primarily on the removal of “The Ghost of Totem Teddy”. Lastly, I fulfilled my job description with regard to student representation on the Board of Trustees in all capacities.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Jordan Lamb
The primary objective for my position this semester was working on the student conference grants and chairing the committee. There were 24 applications turned in, and the Student Representative Council was able to provide funding for 12 of the applicants, totaling $5,630.75. I have also been committed to actively representing the student body on the academic policies committee and faculty senate. I promoted student interests with regard to the issues of triple majors, the interim session, and “XF” grading. My Associate Vice Presidents helped me by attending Undergraduate Council Meetings and the Liberal Arts Council. I was not able to personally attend due to scheduling conflicts, but my AVPs did an excellent job as representatives.

President Rico Wint
Beginning last fall, I pushed a new initiative to increase accountability and move toward student advocacy and student involvement with SRC.  This year the council consisted of extremely hard workers and extremely popular personalities that have helped to give SRC a more noticeable presence on campus. During the summer, I worked with admissions and orientation to be more personally involved with orientation by welcoming new students and parents to UNC. I also became heavily involved with admissions and working as a student voice to help draw students and teachers from different High Schools toward the UNC community.  Along with that as President I have been trying to get the SRC name back to the students and as well as staff.  This year SRC has been finding a way to provide true advocacy for our students and we are still working to make the name the number one student institution on campus.

Vice President for Diverse Relations Justin Puckett
I have worked on many events throughout the year for the benefit of the student body. I organized the Diversity Council and routinely had seven of the eight cultural centers represented as well as the UPC Diverse Programs representative, member or Sigma Lambda Beta Fraternity, Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority and Nu Alpha Kappa Fraternity.  With this council I planned the very successful “Speak Truth, Not Ignorance”: “How You Can Help” which had an attendance of 400 students. Furthermore, for the first time ever, this year’s Springfest will be a daylong cultural festival, which should help increase attendance and interest at the event this spring. I sat on the hiring committee while hiring for the position of Special Assistant to the President for Diversity.  Dr. Keiko Krahnke was appointed to this position, and since then, we have worked together to plan many successful campus events.

Vice President for Legislative Affairs Austin Neilson
I strategically worked on campus canvassing this year to increase the awareness of SRC.  Multiple council members worked to target the classes with highest enrollment and high freshman populations. For this year’s Constitution Day, SRC teamed up with the League of Women Voters.  There were many booths, speakers, and representatives involved, who handed out mini-constitutions to a large audience.I have worked on the New Voter’s Project, and helped with this year’s Liberty Day.  Lastly, I have attended many SRC and UPC events to help increase interest in legislative affairs.

Vice President for Student Affairs Drew Errington
In the fall semester I established several committees to promote student affairs. These include the Student Conference Grant Committee, the Discipline Hearing Committee, and the Library Advisory Committee. Also, hiring processes were successfully carried out for the positions of Elections Commissioner, Assistant Election’s Commissioner (2 positions), SRC Administrative Assistant, and VP for University Relations. I helped promote monthly events, functions, and activities, including Off Campus Housing, and Center for Peer Education. Also, meetings were held bi-monthly with the coordinators of each Student Service to discuss upcoming plans.

Vice President for Finance Brian Weberg
At the beginning of the year, I focused on the SFAP schedule.  I went through each date on the schedule and made sure that the processes and expectations were all clear to the program directors. I ensured that everyone understood the courtesy and ethics of the process. It was my duty to keep all parties involved with SFAP well-informed. One of the ways I accomplished this task was by creating booklets to organize information and to better inform the council and the program directors.
As the year winds down, I am also focusing on how we can make the future processes more efficient, and I am considering new ways to allocate student fees.
