Legislative Report Senate Bill 06-06: Sponsored by members of the Legislative Audit Committee, SB 6 would allow PERA to deny employment to an individual who had been convicted of a felony or other charges if the individual, during his or her employment at PERA, would have access to PERA investment information, assets, or information relating to PERA members or beneficiaries. The bill passed third reading in the House on March 17th and will be sent to the Governor for his signature. Senate Bill 06-162: Sponsored by Sen. Dave Owen, SB162 is the Governor’s and Treasurer’s supported bill for addressing PERA issues. The bill has not been scheduled for a committee hearing. Senate Bill 06-174: Sponsored by Sen. Paula Sandoval, SB174 is PERA’s initiative to strengthen the PERA trust fund over the long term. The bill has not been scheduled for a committee hearing. Talks Continue: PERA continues to have conversations with the representatives and members of the employer and employee community as well as legislators and members of the administration, working toward consensus and reasonable compromise on PERA’s funding issues. Ballot Initiative # 93 introduced: Ballot initiative #93 went through a review and comment hearing on March 17th at 10:30 a.m. Technical difficulties in the hearing room prevented the discussions from being heard on the internet. We know there were eleven technical questions and nineteen substantive questions to be answered by the sponsors at the hearing. If we can obtain some details on the meeting, we will summarize it in a future update. |
