Proposal Development & Submission

On-Line Resources for Developing & Writing Proposals

SPARC maintains a library of resources on developing grant proposals including a variety of books as well as the Winning Grants video series featuring David Bauer.  Books will be loaned for short periods of time, and the videos may be viewed in the SPARC offices.

There are many resources and great deal of information for grant-writers available on-line.  Select the link above for a selection of sites from government granting agencies, foundations, successful grant-writers, and grant-writing consultants.

Research Proposal Checklist

Use of this checklist will help to ensure a proposal's success. The checklist was originally developed by the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, and has been modified to apply across disciplines.

Proposal Submission

The SPARC staff will be of assistance in the final phase of proposal submission:

Review and Apply a Final Checklist of Project Specifications:  It is essential to verify that a proposal adheres to all applicable guidelines and requirements.  If proposal guidelines do not provide specific packaging or evaluation checklists, SPARC will develop one to assist in this process.

Assist With Completion of all Application Forms and Assurances:  SPARC will complete all application and assurance forms for the grant writer since most often the required information is not easily available.

Process Final Internal Clearances for Proposal Submission:  The principal investigator is responsible for completing a UNC Proposal Review & Approval Form (PRAF) and obtaining the signatures of department chair(s) and college dean(s) or equivalent nonacademic administrators.  The Proposal Review & Approval Form is required for all new and competing applications.

Assist with Final Word Processing, Duplicating, Packaging, and Mailing:  Ensuring that the required number of proposals are properly formatted, packaged, and mailed is challenging, expensive, and time-consuming.  Therefore, SPARC must have the proposal at least 48 hours prior to the deadline for submission.
