Research Ethics & Sponsored Programs Compliance
When the University accepts grant funding from an external sponsor, it does so under obligation to comply with the terms and conditions of the award document which may cite particular laws, regulations, policies, and procedural requirements. The university has implemented policies and procedures to ensure that the principal investigator and the university are protected and that grant and contract activities are conducted in compliance with the sponsors' requirements.
Some sponsors require that compliance approvals be obtained before a grant proposal is submitted. To avoid last minute delays in proposal submission, all necessary reviews and approvals should be initiated prior to delivery of a proposal to SPARC. Where appropriate, approval notification should be indicated on the Proposal Review & Approval Form.
For the Use and Protection of Live Vertebrate Animals
Protocols for the use of animals for research, teaching, or testing at UNC must be reviewed and approved by the university's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) prior to the start of any such activities.
For additional information on the use of animals at UNC, contact the Chair of the UNC Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee at 351-1932.
