Colorado Trust
City of Greeley/UNC-CDOI/Other
Project designed to support immigrants and established residents in working together for strong, healthy communities. Faculty forums on UNC's contributions to the projects’ 4-year implementation phase beginning in February 2007.

There are several focus groups in which UNC faculty and students are encouraged to join:

1. Community Integration project research, logisitcs, and support

  • Research into immigrant & refugee needs and available services (health, education, jobs…), conduct surveys and data analysis on effectiveness of current programs and services, School of Social Sciences Research Office coordination and support of UNC-Community parallel grant funded projects in support of the overall initiative.

2. The Immigrant Histories Project

  • Develop and coordinate a UNC/Community Immigrant Histories Program, connecting at-large community members with their own immigrant heritages, helping to help reduce community bias against immigrants & refugees.
  • Bring together UNC faculty members and different groups and individuals within the non-university community, e.g., Greeley Museums, Weld County Library, the Greeley/Weld Genealogical Society, Weld County Historical Society, the City of Greeley Cable television station, various Weld County heritage groups…

3. Immigrant, community, and university education interaction projects

  • Develop outreach and direct action projects with the Greeley-Evans immigrant/refugee community involving K-12 and university education and curriculum programs.
  • Such programs would integrate UNC faculty and students in working with the community and schools in such areas as internships, service learning courses, and developing projects designed to incorporate immigration and cultural/ethnicity content into Greeley-Evans school systems and UNC curricula where appropriate.

4. Immigrant and Refugees and their Historic and current place within the Greeley/Evans economy

  • Develop projects designed to address contributions to, and involvement of, immigrants/refugees with the Greeley-Evans economy in such areas as hiring, employment, generating immigrant-based business, etc.
