Friday – 8:00 p.m.
University of Northern Colorado - Michener Library, Lindou Auditorium

In completion of our Healthcare activities, the School of Social Sciences will be showing a film related to the Healthcare topic.  3 Needles - A three-nation look at the worldwide AIDS crisis.

A scene from Brick

3 Needles (Canada, 2005, 127 mins.) With a stellar cast and shooting sites on three continents, this triptych of stories from around the world sheds light on the continuing ignorance about AIDS and how the disease could be prevented. An initial segment set in China stars Lucy Liu as a black market plasma merchant unrestrained by health regulations. Meanwhile, in Montreal a porn star continues to work by concealing his positive HIV status, and his conflicted mother (Stockard Channing) uses the false health report to take out life insurance on her son. Olympia Dukakis narrates the final segment with Chloë Sevigny in the role of a Catholic health care worker in South Africa who takes unorthodox steps to inhibit the spread of AIDS in the local village. The film, directed by Thom Fitzgerald, contains dialogue in English, Mandarin, French, Xhosi, and Afrikaans. —dc
