Course Overload
Course Loads/Overloads
The normal undergraduate course load is 15 credit hours but if you are an undergraduate student you may enroll for a maximum of 18 credit hours before the beginning of the semester. Beginning the first day of class, if you have a 3.00 GPA or higher, you can register for 21 credits. You will need to call the Registrar's Office to have your credit limit raised from 18 to 21 hours. If you are requesting an overload while student teaching you must request approval from the Education Department in McKee 216. Business and Music majors must get overload approval from their department. Please see "Costs" for more information about tuition charges.
If you are an undergraduate student who has lower than a 3.00 GPA or wish to take over 21 credits and have extenuating circumstances, you may petition for an overload from the department advisor and department chair. These approvals must be forwarded to the Registrar’s Office. The Registrar’s Office will assure that these procedures have been followed. More than 17 credits hours per semester for graduate students is considered an overload. Graduate students receive overload approval from their academic advisor. If you have lower than a 3.00 GPA but have extenuating circumstances you may petition for an overload to the Dean of the Graduate School.
This information may vary during summer terms. Students should check the Interim and Summer Session page for details.
