Academic standing is determined by the cumulative grade point average. In order to graduate, a minimum of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for undergraduate students; 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for graduate students must be earned. For questions or more information undegraduates contact the Office of Academic Support and Advising. Graduates need to contact the Graduate School.

Student Status: A student in Good Standing is eligible to continue, return, or transfer elsewhere. Recording of probation was discontinued Summer 1970. Suspension represents involuntary separation of the student from the University. UNC does not object to other institutions admitting suspended students.

Suspended for Conduct: After a hearing before the University Chief Disciplinary Officer, a student may be suspended from the University. The notation "Suspended (date) for Conduct" remains on the record until the terms of the suspension have been satisfied. Notation recorded beginning Fall 1986.

Terminated from Degree Program: Beginning January 1998 the notation "Terminated from Degree Program, (date)" is recorded when a graduate student has been dropped from their degree program by the Graduate School.

Expulsion for Conduct: Expulsion is the act of terminating a student's academic program and his/her right to future enrollment. This action is taken only by the University Chief Disciplinary Officer. When this action is taken, a notation is made on the student's academic record as follows: "Expelled (date) for Conduct." This notation may be removed from the academic record at the direction of the Chief Disciplinary Officer after five years.

Fresh Start Rule: For an explanation of the recalculation of grade point average indicated by this notation, contact Academic Support and Advising. (970) 351- 1391.
