Welcome to the home page of the National Endowment for the Humanities 2009 Summer Seminar for school teachers “The History and Philosophy of the Peaceful Revolution in East-Central Europe.” We invite school teachers from all disciplines to apply for admission to the seminar. The four-week seminar takes place from June 28-July 25, 2009 in Berlin and Leipzig, Germany, two cities that were at the very center of political opposition movements under communism and developments that led to the fall of the Berlin Wall. 2009 marks the twentieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a perfect time to examine the history and philosophy of the peaceful revolution.
Please explore our Web site for information about the seminar, including the “Dear Colleague” letter, which explains many details of the program, application information, the detailed seminar schedule (revised as of 4/20/09), and links to tourist information about both cities. And don’t hesitate to contact us should you require further information.
