Dr. Bentz’s career at UNC began in 1997 and moved from PhD graduate assistant to faculty and researcher to academic administration. She holds a PhD in Exercise Science with a specialty in physiology. Her research in the areas of cancer rehabilitation and the relationship between physical activity and breast cancer resulted in numerous juried regional and national presentations and publications. In 2008, Dr. Bentz moved to the administrative ranks as Special Assistant to the Dean in the College of Natural and Health Sciences. Her role in the Dean's office included oversight of curriculum, academic program review, and student services. Upon moving to the Office of the Provost in 2012, Dr. Bentz became responsible for oversight of legislative and accreditation academic compliance. She assists the campus with curriculum and new academic program development, is a liaison to the Colorado Department of Higher Education, and assists the Provost with special initiatives such as the Student Success Collaborative. As a first generation student, Dr. Bentz feels a special bond to UNC and particularly enjoys working with faculty and staff in the area of student success.
