Concern for Charlottesville

August 14, 2017

Dear UNC community members,

The violence that took place this weekend at the University of Virginia and in the city of Charlottesville is of great concern. Our hearts go out to that community and to the many others who are affected by these events.

UNC licensed counselors are available to assist members of our university community. To speak with an on-call counselor, please call the center's 24-hour phone line at 970-351-2496.

It should go without saying that acts of race-based violence are counter to the values of UNC. We are committed to being a diverse, inclusive and safe campus that supports the free and open exchange of ideas. As a university community, we share the responsibility for ensuring that every member of our community is safe and has the opportunity to succeed here.

Kay Norton
