April 19
We are
planning on doing a collage for the poem "Marx Dancing with History
Meets Marquez Dancing with Time" by Patrick Lawler. We are taking
each section of the poem, the different "radios", and using
pictures to do a representation of each one. We may also put some music
to it. People will just be able to walk by and look at it.

Kit Peterson,
Sarah Redmond, Chris Wheeler, & John Gest have formed a group for
the final project.
Our plan
right now is to have a slide show with pictures of war while representative
music plays in the background. We also plan on playing some of the
poems read by Komunyakaa, and then finish the presentation with a reading
of an original poem based off the film Paths of Glory.
|
May 1st
at 3:30 p.m.
For our
project we are choosing to look at the family aspect of war. We plan
to photograph a husband/wife reunion, and interview families on film.
We are wanting to look at the more human part of all the death.

Jai-Ayla
Sutherland, Stephanie and Katie Hudson are planning on writing a song
regarding the topics of the poems we discussed at the beginning of
the semester and The Deer Hunter.
We plan
to write original lyrics incorporating the two sources and then using
the guitar, djembe and piano to enhance the song. We have a great feeling
about it and are looking forward to it.

Art is
immediate, as life itself is immediate and constantly existing in the
now. Art was conceiver without boundries by early man in the Pleistocene.
The borders between peformer and audience are recent imaginary constructs,
nothing but shifting faux butterfly dreams of the Imperialism Project,
little more than the crosses, moons and stars of the earlier Abramhic
Project. We seek to bring art beyond these imaginary lines and blend
it out and thru our various mind-form national states. No performers,
no audience members, but both existing at once. As thoughts must be
acted upon, so shall we push this idea of Immediacy. We will present,
but in the presenting we shall also interact through a variety of visual,
oral, and aural representations of the concept of war and its many
vicissitudes. In doing this we will actively engage in a form of war
so that the illusionary boundries seperating performer from audience
can be crosses and abandoned. We stamp nihil upon everything, including
spelling.

My name is Lea Littleford. I was born and raised in this great and beautiful
state. I am 18 years old, as of September, and what a wonderful 18 years
it has been! I attended a private Christian school all through middle
school, then broke free and went to a public high school. There I quickly
picked up passions in sports as a varsity athlete on the cross country
and soccer teams. I also indulged in theatre and newspaper as thespian
president and managing editor of the Chaparral Crier. I am now attending
UNC as a Pre-Journalism major with a minor in Communication Studies.
My favorite color is green, and I love to get to know new people. I am
excited to take this class and would love to work with someone who could
put music to my words!
"People will forget what you said,
People will forget what you did,
But people will never forget how you made them feel."

My name is Dana Littleford.
My major is Elementary Education with a
concentration in Fine Arts. I love the arts. All through high school
I was active in the Drama club. Because of this, for my final
presentation, I would like to do a skit of some sort, or work with
someone who would like to make a film and needs actors. If that
doesn't work out, I consider myself a amateur poet. I have even had
one of my poems published. If it is possible, I could also write a
poem for my final project and read it aloud. I love music, and I
played the piano up until my Junior year in High school, but I don't
have the time nor a piano, so I wouldn't be able to do anything
musical for the final project. I also love art, but am not
artistically blessed, so that wouldn't be an option either. Well, I
hope this email opened your eyes to my love for the arts.
|
I'm still not entirely sure what the project IS, but I think it would
be
interesting to illustrate a poem. I am a visual arts minor and a journalism major, so I do a lot of drawing and painting, but not a lot of creative
writing, so maybe pairing with a writer would be best. I'll have a
better
idea when I know more about the project: Is it a presentation in front
of
the class? How long is it supposed to be? When will it be due? Will
it be
about a certain topic or do we choose the topic?

My name is Jason Weiler and I am a twenty year old junior
here at UNC. Some things about me that might be applicable are that I
have been involved in theatre since I was a kid. In high school I began
making movies with friends and more recently I have been directing childrens
theatre at a small place I helped start up out in Phoenix. I grew up
in Phoenix and I guess tried to counter myself its the cultrally dry
enviornment. I am a theatre studies major and film minor. I am a love
movies to death and have a quiet yet severe passion for Sondheim musicals.
I do some writing every so often, but I fear the only person possibly
entertained by my writing is me. I can still act if have to (but not
to well and not with much confidence). I also know how to film and edit
movies in a general sense, but my biggest pleasure is directing at the
moment. Some of my work can be viewed on line at http://www.woandco.net/movies.html.
Other than that, I love basketball and pasta - and thats all their is
to it.
|
I am a visual arts major with an emphasis
in art history. I have access
to film editing software but have not actually done any film project
so
would be interested in working with someone on that. However, I think
it would be fun to collaborate with someone in any media. I usually paint
or photograph so I suppose that would be my 'area'.

Major/minor: Pre-Journalism / Visual Arts
So, I guess I'm supposed to tell you all about myself... To start, I'm
very artistic and imaginative. I love to create and inspire. A few
of my favorite hobbies include: painting, drawing, listening to music
and
playing guitar. I am a published poet, as I have a poem in a compilation
entitled "Enlightened Shadows" and one in "Speak Up
fall 2001". I enjoy writing, and love to write short stories.
My favorite one is entitled "Gemini Dream" and is a blog
on my myspace page. I also have a page that displays a lot of my artwork,
both digital
and hand drawn and I have included the URL for that site as well.
I
mentioned music. I can't really say that I have a favorite band or
style, as I really listen to anything. What I can say, however, is
that most of MTV's current musical selections are not to my liking.
I remember
when MTV played music, as their name implies... I'm getting on a tangent.
But anyway, to give you a taste of what I do listen to, here's a short
list of some of my current favorites: AFI, Placebo, The Smashing Pumpkins,
Rage Against The Machine, Johnny Cash, Old Crow Medicine Show, R.E.M.,
Beethoven (especially "Moonlight Sonata"), this list really
could go on for ever and a half! Artist, Musician, Writer, Free-Thinker.
That really about sums me up!

This is the autobiography of Matthew “Ollie” Moore. I
was Born in Denver, CO. 1987 at 8lbs of a cesarean section
around 7:00 a.m. My learned
skills include: classical pianio of eleven years, a drummer of six, and
current student of the Tabla’s. I’m a self-proclaimed
artist
of all trades, no, that doesn’t necessarily mean I’m good
at all of them, but I enjoy different veins of artistic expression.
the phrase "I think therefore i am", by philosopher Rene Descartes comes to mind
as I sit here writing about myself, starting to question my
own existence. The
truth is that I have many traits that define what I am about, and
the things I enjoy, but none of them can tell you who I am. I wish I
had a solid, contrived conclusion for everyone to read, but we’re
not that simple. . .
yours truly,

Melissa Davis Bio.
To start off, I am not a very creative person! I have always wished
I was. Now I know that being creative is not the criteria for how
we decide
what final project we do! I suppose I could still do some sort
of art project for the final, but I probably will do something I
am good at,
like a research paper. I am definitely thinking about doing some
sort of research project on Kurt Vonnegut. I have read Slaughterhouse-Five and
think it is a pretty interesting book. I would like to go deeper
into the book to figure out what experiences Vonnegut went though
to
make him be able to write this book so amazingly. It would be
very interesting to me to find out what his life story is. This is
probably
what I will end up doing for my final project.

Jai-Ayla Sutherland
I would love to create some kind of short film for the creative project
at the end of the semester. The arts are a very strong influence in my
life, and I think that this would be a great way to combine the ideas
of the class and present them in one project. There are many different
talents that are needed in order to create a film; therefore, I think
that this would be a great way to get multiple people involved.

"Simply put, I am interested in everything.
I have been involved in a few artistic collaborations that
have involved film-making, photography, poetry and musical
performances so I suppose those are my "strengths". Really though, I am all for getting together with a few other people
to
see what kind of ideas materialize."

My name is Jodie Wagener. I am a junior IDLA major emphasis in Fine Arts and a minor in special ed. I am 21 years old and have 2 sisters.
Artistically, I am best with photography and digital photography. Im not really sure what else there is to tell.

My name is Chris Wheeler and I'm a Junior Theatre Studies student. I'm
interested in filmmaking (low quality due to the resources
available to me...), writing, editing film, storyboards, acting, and
theatre among other things. I'm not really sure what I'd like to do for this final project, but I am leaning in a more creative direction,
rather than a research project.

Hello, I'm Brie Vicek and quite obviously I'm in your Mind class this
semester. I come from a very heavy background in the performing and
visual arts. Actually I've been creating since I can remember - It's
just something I enjoy doing. I've worked with the Denver Center for
Performing Arts downtown, and also in many local art galleries. My
real
passion is for poetry - I write almost daily and have been published
in
literary magazines.
Seeing how all these things work together, I am truly living my life
in
them as a freshman in the Design & Technology Theatre and Graphic
Arts
Majors. I have a continued love of learning and a great curiosity which
is why I'm hoping to work with others, perhaps artists in a different
discipline, (even math, biology, anything) to really come up with a
very insightful, creative and new project this semester. So if anyone
is looking for a project partner or even a study buddy, please let
me
know! I look forward to getting to know you better.
Random Facts - I'm a master level scuba diver, have played the violin
for 13 years, I speak French and I love to have fun!

My name is Lindsay Burleson.
I am currently a freshman and am in between majors. I have played the
clarinet for 7 years, played a small part in a play once and have also
taken a beginners theatre class.
I love being creative, whether its making a poster, playing music, or
trying to act. I would rather do a project with a group than by myself,
and would rather not do a research project. I'm up for about anything.
I currently live on central campus and would prefer working with people
who also do, but it's not that big of a deal.
Anything else, just send me an email.

For the final project I would like to participate in making a film or
some sort of creative project like that. I am really interested in film
and this would be a good oppurtunity to collaborate with others in our
class to all work towards this common goal. Plus it would be good to
learn from others that have different interests than me.

A blurb concerning Nathan Fuhr
Autobiographies are essentially narcissistic and egomaniacal
masturbation. Grab some lube and get ready.
Ten unrelated facts concerning the aforementioned individual:
1 – True noise may be the last refuge and hope of music, therefore
NF
has a bad habit of listening to static in the form of Merzbow
recordings. If he requires something different he listens to anything
from Gypsy Dances to D-beat to Gamelan to Neo-folk. If more static is
required he listens to Nordvargr or Mz.412. The purpose of the above
statement is to insist that noise in all its forms is music while being
anti-music and maybe the truest expression of society being unable to
cope with rapid changes in its culture.
2 – This is a short statement. NF still believes in DADA.
3 – He is currently searching for artists of all stripes to make
a full
multimedia experience. Noise + Music + Poetry/Prose recital + Internet
Broadcast + Wayang Kulit + Film Projection + Visual Art + Typographic
Insanity + Shaivite Yoga + Life = Poetic Terrorism. Sensory overload
is
useful for making a point.
4 – There are elements of Russian Futurism in all 10 facts. The
most
notable being the use of autobiography as ego/art manifesto.
5 – The Temporary Autonomous Zone is perhaps the most useful and
useless book ever written next to Tzara’s Seven Lampistries.
[This has been removed due to unforeseen Governmental Censorship]
7.5 – NF insists the reading of Trotsky and Nagarjuna. Artists
only
concerned with making money and perpetuating the horror of consumer
artifacts and desecrating the essential anti-capitalist nature of ART
are asked to purchase small pink daisies. Preferably the kind that
dispenses water in streams for personal protection from the eventual
internal collapse of their void/form
void-form/form-form/form-void/void-void constructs.
8 – “No one cares about your emo poetry.” This includes
not masking it
under the guise of hardcore, straightedge, or any other form of music
ending in the suffix “-core”. Jesus and Shakespeare have
phoned in
their concurrence to this statement.
9 – NF works in following mediums: the written word, defaced type,
PBR,
spraycans, markers, bricks, gin and tonics, static, old recordings,
chemical fires, vinyl albums, Sunn amps, spoken word, riot instigation, and failing vocal chords.
10 – He believes in failed dreams, the Upanishads, the Ramayana,
Chaos, and Ganesha’s broken tusk.

language.

John Holtzman
My interests are pretty general. I like music, books, and films. I've
played drums for a couple of different bands recently but sadly,
neither of them worked out. I've written some poetry for classes,
but haven't
written any in awhile and I would like to get started on that again.
I've also done some acting. I was in quite a few plays in high school
and I was in a short film directed by a student here at UNC that
appeared in the UNC Short Film Festival. I've recently gotten interested
in
Photoshop and I'm learning, but it will be a long time before I can
do anything really unique with it. This is kind of strange, but I
really like cooking too. I'm looking forward to the creative nudge
that this
class could give me.

My name is Leah Koliha and I'm a sophomore at UNC, majoring in the Secondary
Education Program for Mathematics. I love all forms of art. In the past
I've, at least attempted: drawing, photography, several forms of dance,
on-stage performance as well as PR and general tech stuff behind the
curtain, I used to write fictional short stories, jewelry making, choir,
and some film making which never amounted to much. I love making collages
and being creative visually, so I already have a few ideas for the project
ifanyone would be interested in that type of creative thinking. For the
final project I am looking at creating a collage, mostly of black/white photography, although I would be open to other mediums as
well.
NEW:
In the collage I was thinking of picking a poem or scene from the book
to
recreate using modern images. I want to try to relate the feeling of
war to
everyday things we see. I like the idea of using all this snow we have
to
create a dark, kind of lifeless look to the collage, so I'd be willing
to
get started right away. I would love some help in photoshopping or
more
skill in photography/other art forms than I have (which isn't much),
so if
anyone's interested I would love to talk to you!

Hello, my name is Kit Peterson. I'm a sophomore and my major is Theater
Studies. I love theater and anything to do with the arts. I've been acting
since I was 4, and I've have the pleasure and opportunity of doing many
other things in the theater as well from tech to dramaturgy. I am currently
working on the UNC production Bacon, and I'm very excited about it. I
love to read, and write, both are a very strong passion of mine, though
my spelling wouldn't always tell the same tale.....I'd like to consider
myself a pretty light hearted person, and always open to almost anything
and everything. I always try to find a good laugh, and I love debating
and thinking metaphorically and all those wonderful things philosophers
tend to do (though I really don't consider myself a philosopher, I just
like acting like one). Well, that's basically me in a nutshell, so far
this class seems to be really fun and engaging and I look forward to
what else it has in store and getting to know all of you better!
|
My name is Stephanie Hudson. I was born and raised in Wyoming and I
am a freshman and UNC this year. My major is pre- visual arts and I really
enjoy art. I love working in a number of mediums, but charcoal is my
favorite so far. :) As far as this creative project goes, I would really
like to try my hand at doing some kind of film project and portray what
we learned from class in a visual way that is not in a drawing format.
|
My name is Sarah Redmond, and I am a Theatre studies major. I will be auditioning
for the Acting program Feb. 10 so wish me luck. I love acting and hope
to make a career out of it, I was thinking of doing voice work
perhaps (i.e. commercials, videogames, cartoons) As far as acting I have
done mainly Shakespeare, I did a season with Boulder’s Upstart
Crow TheatreCompany where my final role was Lady Macbeth. I am currently
a member of Longmont Theatre’s Taste of Shakespeare group and performed
in Much Ado About Nothing and A Midsummer’s Night Dream over the
summer.
*Hint, hint. If someone wants to do a video or skit for the group project I’m in.
I like being artistic in general; I took many art classes at Front Range
community college where I got an Associate of Arts degree.
Other things about me:
I am an animal lover and seem to have a strange magnetic attraction
with them which I like most of the time.
Heads up, I am weird, everyone I have ever known has told me so especially
my mother. I will randomly burst out into song and I come complete with
sound effects.
I have ADD, yes I do. I was tested and diagnosed by a Pediatric Neurologist
when I was little. However I am determined not to let it stop me from
doing well in this class and conquering college!
I am an independent student and I am working my way through college
so I work a lot, which means: I need my group to be people who can
plan ahead and commit to it, my
schedule is tight but if we make plans you can count on me to be there.
