Areas of special interest: Phenomenology and existentialism, the history of philosophy, philosophy of logic, and the philosophy of art.

A member of the UNC faculty since 1976, Prof. Trelogan regularly teaches our courses in formal logic, history of ancient philosophy, and metaphysics. In recent years, he has also taught courses on Nietzsche; Philosophy of Art; Language, Truth, and Logic; Phenomenology and Existentialism; J.L. Austin’s How to Do Things with Words; Schopenhauer and Nietzsche; Schopenhauer and Hegel, Martin Heidegger’s Being and Time; and Reading Plato.

Prof. Trelogan also regularly teaches in UNC’s Life of the Mind Program.

Prof. Trelogan pursued his graduate studies in philosophy at Yale University, where he completed all the requirements for the Ph.D. except the dissertation.
