Prof. Matchett's research and teaching focuses on ethics and applied philosophy. Her teaching repertoire includes both traditional and online courses on introductory applied ethics, introductory philosophy, bioethics, personal identity, professional ethics, philosophy and literature, philosophy and film, and political philosophy.
Dr. Matchett also serves as director of the Institute of Professional Ethics, which hosts her Center for Ethical Deliberation (CED) Web site. The CED is an interactive tool designed to help users identify the ethical dimension of their choices, and deliberate more effectively about how to resolve ethical issues. The Institute uses the Web site to facilitate research, teaching and training on ethics across the curriculum.
Prof. Matchett has a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Maryland, an M.A. in Philosophy and Social Policy from American University, and a B.A. with honors in International Relations from Brown University. She is also a Philosophical Counselor certified by the American Philosophical Practitioners Association.
