Areas of special interest: normative ethics, both theoretical and applied.
New to the UNC faculty this fall, Prof. Matchett will be teaching our existing offerings in applied ethics. Her previous teaching experience includes both traditional and online courses on bioethics, professional ethics, philosophy and literature, philosophy and film, political philosophy and personal identity.
She is also the new director of the program’s Institute of Professional Ethics, to which she will bring her Center for Ethical Deliberation Web site. The Web site, which she initially developed with support from the University of Denver, is an interactive tool designed to help users identify the ethical dimension of their choices, and deliberate more effectively about how to resolve ethical issues.
Prof. Matchett has a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Maryland, and an M.A. in Philosophy and Social Policy from American University. She is also a Philosophical Counselor certified by the American Philosophical Practitioners Association.
