There is no free parking on UNC campus; a permit must be properly displayed in each vehicle unless it is parked at a paid meter. Click here for information about UNC parking meter pay rates.
Visitors may purchase time at the meters or purchase a daily permit from the dispenser machines in most student parking areas. To avoid being issued a citation, plan to purchase a Daily Dispenser Permit (Price=$5.00) from one of the eight dispensers on campus if you do not have a current permit. Click here to open Parking Map. Eight red stars on the map indicate locations of Daily Dispensers. At present the dispensers are equipped to accept U.S. nickels, dimes, quarters, coin and paper one dollar bills and five dollar bills only.
Visitors may also purchase a Visitor Parking Permit (scratch-off format, $6.00 each) from the Parking Services' Office (Gray Hall), or from the University Conference and Events Scheduling Office (located on the second level of the University Center). Scratch-off permits can also be purchased by phone with Discover, MasterCard or Visa bankcard and an address & lead time for mailing the permits. Once placed, the order is binding and cannot be changed. Our computer operating system does not allow us to change a Bulk Invoice after the permits on that invoice have been updated.
UNC Student Daily Parking Permits (scratch-off format, $5.00 each) are valid for one calendar day in only regular UNC parking spaces specifically in Student parking lots except Student-K lot, K-east. UNC Visitor scratch-off permits are valid for one calendar day in any regular or metered UNC parking space. A visitor must commit the permit to one day by scratching off the current month, day and year when using the permit, and hang it from the rear view mirror such that the date-scratched side faces the windshield, unobscured.
Clinic Visitors who have appointments at UNC Psychological Services Clinic, UNC Rocky Mountain Cancer Rehabilitation Institute or UNC Speech and Audiology Clinic may purchase Clinic Parking Permits from the clinic where their appointments are scheduled. Where it is valid is stated on the face of a Clinic Permit, but the user of the permit is responsible for filling in the time and date when a Clinic Permit is valid.
Contractors and Service Vendors may purchase time in metered areas, or purchase a daily permit available from the dispenser machines in most student lots. Where it is valid is stated on the face of a dispenser permit. UNC Parking Services also offers Self-serve Daily Service permits. These self-serve Service permits can be purchased in advance, stored and then when one uses the permit, one must ink-out or punch-out the month, day & year when one is using the permit. Click here for information about Self-Serve Daily Service permits. If frequent trips are anticipated, Parking Services should be contacted for purchase of a monthly or an annual Service Permit.
Visitors to University Apartments are asked to use street parking. However, DD (daily dispenser), FS, N (Student scratch-off), ST and V (Visitor scratch-off) permits are valid in P-south, the dirt lot south of 18th Street at University Apartments. Lots P and P-south are subject to continuous (24/7/365) enforcement. Properly displayed Visitor scratch-off permits are valid in regular and metered spaces of P-lot. TM (Temporary) permits can be purchased at Parking Services in Gray Hall, 8a - 5p, M-F, for a series of days at P-lot &/or other lots as needed.
Visitors with disabilities with a state handicap placard or state handicap license plate must buy a visitor scratch-off permit, a student scratch-off permit or a daily dispenser permit to park in the Disabled spaces. The Visitor Scratch-off Permit allows visitors to park in all disabled spaces (with a state disability permit also displayed), regular spaces and meters. The Student Scratch-off Permit and the Daily Dispenser Permit allow motorists to park in all disabled spaces (with a state disability permit also displayed), and regular spaces in student parking lots except K-east, by Monfort College of Business.
If you are visiting for a weekend event, please call Parking Services (ph# 970 351 1971, 8a - 5p, M-F) directly so that we might inform you of limited or unlimited enforcement of any specific lot.
