Arts and Sciences Office of Teacher Education

Students on Campus

The Humanities and Social Sciences Office of Teacher Education has primary responsibility for coordinating teacher education activities in the Colleges of Humanities and Social Sciences and Natural and Health Sciences. It provides a central contact point for students and faculty involved in teacher preparation, and provides liaison with the administration and faculty of the College of Education and Behavioral Science. The Office of Teacher Education also is home to two interdisciplinary majors: the Interdisciplinary Studies Liberal Arts major and the Social Science major.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is a major partner in teacher education at UNC. Twenty-four HHS and NHS faculty members are involved directly in teacher preparation. They staff learning communities for incoming freshmen, oversee UNC students in partner schools, teach methods courses, supervise student teachers, and provide outreach services to teachers and school districts.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences plays a large part in administering many of the following areas of teacher preparation, and the Office of Teacher Education coordinates teacher education activities in all these areas:
