Academic Support and Advising

Prepare for Advising and Course Registration

The advising process is designed for students and their advisor to discuss a variety of academic issues, such as:  past experiences in certain classes, level of interest in certain topics, course requirements for the students selected major, appropriate level of courses, and Liberal Arts Core classes.

You can prepare ahead of time in the following ways:

  1. Think about what classes you liked taking in high school
  2. Think of classes in which you have done well in the past
  3. Take a look at the Liberal Arts Core and think about what sounds fun. All of the details will be explained to you at orientation, so don’t worry about understanding it all right now. Just take a look to see what sounds like a good fit for you.
  4. Look at the classes that your major requires. (Again, don’t worry about the details, all of this will be explained to you).  Look at the course titles.  Do they sound like classes that interest you?
  5. Sign up for an Academic Learning Community
