More Scholarship Money for Incoming Freshman Colorado Residents in 2008!
We've added new scholarship programs for incoming freshman from Colorado. We've increased the award amounts for existing ones. And some scholarships that were competitive are now automatically awarded to high-performing students!
For Colorado Freshman
Bear Tracks Scholarship
- $500 for freshman year only
- Automatically offered to Colorado residents with Admission Index of 100 to 111; no application required
- For Colorado residents admitted by March 1, 2008
- To be considered for scholarships in subsequent years, complete the Northern Colorado Universal Scholarship Application by March 1 for the upcoming academic year (fall, spring).
Valedictorian Scholarship
- $1,000 per year, renewable with good academic standing
- For Colorado residents ranked first in their high school graduating class (sorry - home-schooled students are not eligible)
- Ranking must be documented by high school counselor on transcript submitted by March 1, 2008; no application required
- Awarded in addition to any of the scholarships listed on this page
Scholarship Programs with Increased Awards and/or Changed Eligibility Requirements
Northern Colorado Trustees’ Scholarship
- $5,000/year
- Competitive (Number offered increased from 1 to up to 3)
- Must have Scholarship Eligibility Index of 140 or above for consideration; submit University of Northern Colorado Universal Scholarship Application
- For Colorado residents who are admitted and meet criteria by March 1
- Renewable with cumulative Northern Colorado GPA of 3.5 or above in 24 semester hours earned each academic year (fall, spring); maximum of 8 semesters of eligibility
Northern Colorado Presidential Scholarship
- $2,000/year
- Automatically offered to admitted students with a Scholarship Eligibility Index of 129-139;
- For Colorado residents who are admitted and meet criteria by March 1
- Renewable with cumulative Northern Colorado GPA of 3.5 or above in 24 semester hours earned each academic year (fall, spring); maximum of 8 semesters of eligibility
Northern Colorado Provost Freshman Scholarship
- $1,250/year
- Automatically offered to students with Scholarship Eligibility Index of 112-128
- For Colorado residents who are admitted and meet criteria by March 1 if enrolling for the first time in fall semester or Nov. 1 if enrolling for the first time in spring semester
- Freshman year only; non-renewable. To be considered for scholarships in subsequent years, complete the Northern Colorado Universal Scholarship Application by March 1 for the upcoming academic year (fall, spring).
To qualify for any of the above scholarships, you must be starting your first bachelor's degree and be enrolled full-time (12 credits or more) each semester. You can receive only one of the above scholarships with the exception of the Valedictorian, which can be combined with one other scholarship. These scholarships are not available to students in degree programs offered through the Office of Extended Studies.
For Colorado Transfer Students
We've added new scholarship programs for transferring Colorado residents. We've increased the award amounts for existing ones. And some scholarships that were competitive are now automatically awarded to high-performing students!
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
- $1,000 renewable scholarship if student remains in good academic standing for a total of 6 semesters
- For new transfer students who were members of Phi Theta Kappa at a Colorado community college
- Awarded in addition to either of the scholarships listed below
- Requires completion of the University of Northern Colorado Universal Scholarship Application before March 1, 2008 to be considered OR documentation of Phi Theta Kappa membership if admitted after the March 1 scholarship application deadline

- $1,500/year
- Automatically offered to admitted Colorado residents who transfer with associate degree (AA or AS) from a community college and cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher; no application required
- Must be admitted by June 15 if enrolling first time fall semester or Nov. 1 if enrolling first time spring semester. Transcripts verifying eligibility must be on file at Northern Colorado by June 15 for fall or Nov. 1 for spring enrollment.
- Renewable with cumulative Northern Colorado GPA of 3.0 or higher in 24 semester hours earned each academic year (fall, spring). Maximum of 6 semesters of undergraduate eligibility.
Northern Colorado Provost Transfer Scholarship
- $1,250/year
- Automatically offered to Colorado residents who transfer with 30 or more semester hours (earned beginning fall semester after high school graduation) and cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher; no application required
- Must be admitted by June 15 if enrolling first time fall semester or Nov. 1 if enrolling first time spring semester. Transcripts verifying eligibility must be on file at Northern Colorado by June 15 for fall or Nov. 1 for spring enrollment.
