Types of Financial Aid
Many University of Northern Colorado students receive one or more types of financial aid.
Financial aid refers to the wide variety of programs that help students and their families pay for college. It's available in three main forms:
- Grants and scholarships, which do not have to be repaid
- Loans, which have to be repaid
- Student employment and work-study, which provide aid in exchange for work, usually in the form of campus-based employment
Almost all financial aid provided by the federal government is awarded based on your ability to pay for college.
But not all financial aid is need-based. UNC awards millions of dollars a year in scholarships to students based on their academic accomplishments, so you might qualify for financial aid even though you and your family didn’t realize it.
Here’s where you can start learning more about the many different options for financial aid that are available and the financial aid application and award process.
