Crystal Weigum is a leader, a scholar and a truly caring individual. She is also the 2011 honoree of the Robert and Ludie Dickeson Presidential Prize for Leadership. Crystal was awarded the prestigious leadership prize at the Spring graduation ceremony in appreciation of her leadership both on and off campus.
As a student, Crystal shared her passion and enthusiasm for learning with those around her; she embraced learning in the classroom with her fellow students, became a highly effective peer tutor for biology, chemistry and physics and a BIOTA mentor and sounding board for lower classmen in biology to help incoming freshmen make the transition from high school to college.
Crystal also embraced the University beyond the classroom. As a sampling of her involvement on campus, Crystal was the President of the Pre-health Professional Club, Communications Chair of Mortar Board, Vice President of Sigma Tau Sigma Honors Society for Volunteer Tutors and the Accounting Chair for UNC’s relay for Life Event Committee. She truly believes in giving back to the community and she leads by example. Some significant contributions of her time, talent and effort include numerous food drives, book drives for elementary schools in Greeley, building homes with Habitat for Humanity and volunteering at the Monfort Family Birth Center.
Crystal Weigum graduated in May 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences. She hopes one day to become a physician—and because of her dedication, determination, and compassion, Crystal will make a positive difference wherever her future takes her. During her time at UNC, she has certainly made the University and surrounding Community a better place.
