Research

The primary focus of our laboratory is the use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological (physical activity) interventions to attenuate the deleterious cardiovascular side effects of chemotherapy. We use animal models of chemotherapy-induced organ toxicity to examine the benefits of specific drugs and exercise in alleviating the deleterious side effects of cancer treatments. Our laboratory uses modern physiological, biochemical, and histological techniques to assess the degree of protection provided by treatment interventions.

In addition to our work with chemotherapy toxicities, our laboratory investigates the influence of acute and chronic exercise on ischemia-reperfusion injury. These studies examine the effects of different exercise modalities on ischemia-reperfusion injury, particularly in the heart, blood vessels, and intestines.
