Prospective Students

The Master of Public Health in Public Health at the University of Northern Colorado is the only health education program in the Rocky Mountain region accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). The Master of Public Health Program provides training for those interested in working with community-based programs. The program is based on a competency model so that students are trained in the area of public health and community health education. The curriculum follows the responsibilities, competencies and sub-competencies of the graduate AAHE/SOPHE Standards for the Preparation of Graduate-Level Health Educators.

The five core areas of public health education include:

  • biostatistics
  • epidemiology
  • environmental health sciences
  • health services administration
  • social and behavioral sciences

Community health education areas include:

  • needs assessment
  • program planning
  • program implementation
  • program evaluation

You will also be prepared to coordinate the provision of health education services, act as a resource for health education programs, communicate health concerns, and apply appropriate research methods in health education.

The field of public health education offers a vast array of employment opportunities. Our public health education graduates are employed in various settings throughout Colorado, other state, and other countries.
