Organizations

As a student, you may want to join one or more of the following professional health organizations. There are usually greatly reduced membership fees for students. These organizations provide educational publications and opportunities for meeting other professionals and career possibilities at state, regional, or national meetings.

American Association for Health Education (AAHE) – Association Drive, Reston, VA 22031. (Regular dues $100/year; undergraduate/graduate students $30/year.)   Membership dues vary depending on the type of membership and number of publications you are interested in.  Membership includes the publication Health Education and the newsletters HE-EXTRA & Update. American Public Health Association (APHA) – 1015 15th Street, NW, Washington, DC 20005, (202) 789-5600 (Regular dues $130/year; Students $50/year.) Membership includes the publication American Journal of Public Health and the newsletter The Nation’s Health. Meets annually in the fall, usually October or November. Website: http://www.apha.org

American School Health Association (ASHA) – 7623 State Route 43, P. O. Box 708, Kent, OH 44240. UPDATE (Dues $100/year; Students $40/year.) Membership includes the publication Journal of School Health and The Pulse newsletter. Annual meeting is in October. Website: http://www.aahperd.org/aahe

Colorado Chapter of the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) – Send application to COSOPHE PO Box 460747 Denver, CO 80246. (Regular dues $25; Student membership $12.50). Membership includes monthly meetings, professional networking and job exchange, workshops and conferences and professional opportunities. Website link: http://www.cosophe.com/

National Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) - 2001 Addison Street, Suite 220, Berkeley, CA 94704, (415) 644-9242Student Membership is $60/year. Membership includes the publication Health Education Quarterly. Meets annually close to APHA Conference in the fall. Regional conferences also. Website: http://www.sophe.org. Membership applications are available in the Public Health Office – see your advisor if you have an interest in a particular organization.
