Holistic Review: Considering the Total Applicant
Many professional schools use holistic review strategies to examine their applicants. Holistic review is a method that examines an applicants capabilities in a more balanced manner, including their experiences, attributes and academic metrics, as shown above. These facets of an applicant are then considered in combination to determine the potential contributions of the applicant to the healthcare professions. As you prepare for professional school, it is critical that you consider your qualifications in each of these areas. It is also important to remember that all of these areas are valued, so you cannot assume that doing quite well in one area will completely counteract deficiencies in another area.
