two path double knife edge schlieren

Here's an article from Optics Express on a new technique utilizing schlieren imaging in a two-path geometry. For the first time, direction indicating, color images were generated from monochromatic light sources. (yes, this is a shameless plug for our work - Dr. C)

First Indication of Terrestrial Matter Effects on Solar Neutrino Oscillation
Physics Review Letters

A day-night asymmetry has been observed in the rate of neutrino detection, indicating an effect on neutrino oscillations due to travelling through the Earth. Cool!

NIF Fusion Figure

Fuel gain exceeding unity in an inertially confined fusion implosion
Nature

While they aren't quite ready to miniaturize the massive 192-beam laser system to power your home or car, this is a big step in the development of laser-driven fusion. As a grad student I gave tours of the big fusion laser at the University of Rochester, so drop by for a basic overview.
