What is the RN-BS Online Program at University of Northern Colorado?

A 15 month totally online program for working ADN or Diploma graduates, designed for completion of the Bachelor of Science Degree.

How long is the program?

The program takes fifteen (15) months or four (4) semesters to complete. Cohorts begin every Fall and continue through Spring and Summer with graduation the following Fall. Two (2) courses are taken per semester. Nurses are able to work full-time while completing the program.

Are clinical courses required?

Yes, there are two clinical courses that are arranged where students are living. Students are able to choose preceptorship locations (based on availability).

Is it necessary to come to the UNC Campus?

Yes, students are required to attend one day of orientation in the Fall at the beginning of the program. Information about the orientation is sent when accepted into the program.

What are the requirements to be admitted?

  • Graduation from an accredited ADN or Diploma Nursing Program
  • License to practice nursing
  • Completion of one semester each of the following classes: English composition, chemistry and statistics. (Other courses may be required for Diploma Graduates)

What requirements are needed for graduation?

  • Completion of nursing prerequisites
  • Completion of nursing online courses
  • Completion of liberal arts core requirements for UNC either by taking courses or transfer. This may include completion of an AS degree at the community college or completion of the BS degree in another field.

What is the cost?

  • Approximately $260 per credit hour (subject to change). The cost per semester is approximately $1560-$2080. These costs may be reimbursed by hospitals that employ the RN.
  • Access to a computer with high speed Internet access and virus protection is required. A personal computer is recommended.
  • Texts for each class are required. The cost will vary with the course.

The UNC RN-BSN Online Program is run through Extended Studies and is not eligible for Colorado Opportunity Fund. The COF site  states that cash funded programs and those run through continuing education/extended studies are not eligible for COF.

  • Application is a 2-step process.
    1. Apply to UNC - the menu on the right will direct you to the online application forms. A $40 fee will be required. This is needed to evaluate your transcripts.
