Health Clearances/ Malpractice Insurance/Background Checks/OSHA
Health and Safety Requirements – all students are required to complete OSHA testing, CPR certification, and verification of RN licensure prior to clinical courses. Additionally, health screening is required and includes – physical exam, immunization record, HBV immunization verification/rejection, and annual PPD reaction record.
Malpractice Insurance – the university does not carry malpractice insurance for students. As a student participating in clinicals you are required to have a current malpractice policy in effect. The malpractice carried by your employer is not sufficient for this purpose.
Clinical contracts for agencies – prior to beginning any clinical practicum the student is responsible for making sure the School of Nursing and the individual agency have a current clinical agency agreement. More information is given to students prior to starting clinical courses but students should be aware this process can take sometime to accomplish and needs to be attended to prior to the semester when clinicals are started.
