Post Bachelor's to Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) Emphasis
The Post-Bachelor's Doctor of Nursing Practice (BSN-to-DNP) degree program with Adult-Gerontology Acute Care (AGACNP) Emphasis is a practice-focused doctorate designed for working BSN nurses. You will learn to promote health and assess, diagnose, monitor, treat and coordinate the care of acutely and critically ill adolescents, adults, and older adults across transitions of care with a focus on the rural environment. A primary focus of this specialized acute care role is to improve transitions of care and help prevent hospital readmissions.
This part-time plan of study is designed to fit around the schedules of practicing BSN RNs. Coursework is via asynchronous ("not at the same time") online delivery the majority of the year. There are two summer intensive sessions in Greeley, CO, during the program. Practicums are planned in your regional area with existing clinical partners.
Applications are due February 1st for the Fall start. Late applications are accepted, however admission priority is given to those meeting the above deadline. You may contact the School of Nursing to see if applications are still being accepted for the upcoming Fall term. Admission is competitive.
At this time, the University of Northern Colorado is unable to accept applications for admission to online courses or programs from these specific states.
Following graduation, you will be eligible to apply for national APN certification credentials that are specific to Adult-Gerontology Acute Care:
- The AGACNP-BC certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
- The ACNPC-AG certification from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) Board.
Graduates can also apply for state licensure as an advanced practice nurse (APN/APRN) in adult-gerontology acute care.
You'll also have earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. In 2004, schools affiliated with the American Association of Colleges of Nurses endorsed DNP education as the terminal degree for Advanced Practice Nurses by the year 2015.
