The Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) certificate program is designed to prepare students who already possess a Master’s in Nursing for advance practice as an FNP. All applicants must have both an undergraduate as well as graduate degree in Nursing. This program of study meets the guidelines for nurse practitioner education as recommended by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties.

In addition to course work, the student will be required to complete 720 clinical hours in precepted primary care. Preceptors can be licensed physicians, advanced practice nurses or physician assistants. Two hundred clinical hours must be with a nurse practitioner.

The graduate of the FNP certificate program will be prepared to deliver direct primary care services to diverse populations. Upon completion of the program, the graduate will be eligible to apply for national certification and is eligible to apply for advanced nurse practice status.
