Dr. Hessler has been teaching across programs at UNC for the last 12 years. Her expertise is in the graduate Family Nurse Practitioner program. She maintains a current faculty practice at Sunrise Community Health Center in Evans, Colorado, serving patients who are socioeconomically challenged. Dr. Hessler is the current CETL Fellow for the college of Natural and Health Sciences. Her research interests include prevention of pediatric obesity within the primary care setting, diagnosis and management of gestational diabetes, innovative teaching strategies, use of cognitive load theory in nursing education, and the use of ambulatory devices in the hospital setting.
