Dr. Hessler has been teaching across programs at UNC for the last 11 years. Her expertise is in the graduate Family Nurse Practitioner program, where she teaches the advanced physical assessment, and diagnosis and management courses. She maintains a current faculty practice at Sunrise Community Health Center in Evans, Colorado, serving patients of all ages, with all diagnoses who are socioeconomically challenged. She also teaches physical assessment to the BSN students and enjoys this connection with the undergraduate students and curriculum. Research interests include prevention of pediatric obesity within the primary care setting, diagnosis and management of gestational diabetes, innovative teaching strategies, use of cognitive load theory in nursing education, and the use of ambulatory devices in the hospital setting.
