Program of Study

Liberal Arts Core

The University requires that all undergraduates complete coursework in eight areas of Liberal Arts study. The eight general areas include communication, mathematics, physical activity, arts, humanities, history, social and behavioral sciences, international and multicultural studies. A minimum of 40 credit hours of Liberal Arts classes in skills and content areas are required for graduation with 30 hours minimum in content areas.

Required Support Courses - Prerequisites

To meet the needs of the degree in nursing, students are required to complete certain prerequisite courses. All prerequisite courses must be completed prior to beginning the clinical portion of the nursing program. Most prerequisites courses can be completed either at UNC or via transfer from a community college. The prerequisites describe courses offered in Colorado and Wyoming that meet the prerequisite requirements.

Certified Nursing Assistant

Prior to applying for admission to the clinical portion of the nursing program applicants must complete the course work to become a Certified Nursing Assistant or CNA. Many agencies and community colleges offer to sit for the CNA exam. Course work must be completed at the time of application and the certification exam must be passed prior to May of the year of admission to the program.

Required Nursing Courses

During the final two years of study students are involved in clinical nursing experiences. Students have a variety of choices for clinical experiences including hospitals, nursing homes, industry, schools and community agencies, primarily in northeastern Colorado communities. Clinical practice is concurrent with nursing theory (classes) and is guided by nursing faculty.
