The mission of the UNC Gerontology program is to provide a multidisciplinary graduate education that enhances student understanding of basic and applied research on aging, application of research to practice in the field, and opportunities for professional training.
We educate through curriculum that provides students with opportunities for a depth of knowledge and critical understanding of the aging person, and of the systems and resources that address the needs and quality of life of an older population. Knowledge-based goals of the program are met by a core multidisciplinary curriculum. Skill-based and professional development goals are met through course content and activities that provide students opportunities for teaching, research, and hands-on practice through internships and service in the community. Our graduates will become leaders within the field of aging, either within the aging network itself, or in various occupational or community settings.
