The Southern Institute of Forensic Science

The Southern Institute of Forensic Science (SIFS) is a consortium that provides a variety of courses which are offered for college credit at sponsoring institutions. Courses are generally in a one-week intensive format and are accredited at both undergraduate and graduate level depending upon the sponsoring institution.   Classes are attended by students, law enforcement personnel, and other interested individuals.
 
UNC and SIFS offer three CRJ 408 forensic science workshops per year.  The courses are offered during the winter and spring breaks, as well as the summer term     Class topics change with each session.  Some of the courses that have been offered in the past at UNC include:  Basic Forensic Anthropology, Basic Forensic Anthropology for Law Enforcement and Death Investigators, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis in Violent Crime, Forensic Photography and Crime Scene Documentation, and Techniques of Crime Scene Investigation.  
  
The Southern Institute of Forensic Science CRJ 408 workshops meet all requirements for CRJ electives.
