Jay Jase "JJ" Walker, 23, passed away unexpectly on Nov. 9, 2008 at his home in Greeley, where he attended college at the University of Northern Colorado where he was studying Chemical Engineering. He was to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in May of 2009. A memorial service will be Friday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at the La Junta High School Gymnasium with Donna Rohde officiating.
JJ was born June 30, 1985 in Raton, N.M., to Steve Walker and Melissa Lee McVey. He was an avid sports fan of everything from baseball to golf. He also enjoyed the outdoors including boating and hunting. He had a passion for coaching kids. JJ would come home from college for the summers to coach local kids in football and baseball as well as managing the La Junta Municipal Pool.
JJ loved being with his family and friends, and he had an amazing ability to make everyone around him laugh. He is survived by his father, Steve J. Walker; mother, Melissa L. McVey; sister, Shelby L. Walker; grandfather, Everett Alan "Buster" Walker; grandmother Frances McVey, and also survived by many local relatives. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Zola Marilyn Walker and maternal grandfather, Clyde E. McVey.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jay Walker Memorial Fund, c/o Colorado East Bank & Trust, P.O. Box 930, La Junta, CO, 81050, direct or through the funeral home.
