
The Constitution of the Student Affiliate of the American Chemical Society of the University of Northern Colorado.
Article I. NAME
The name of the this organization shall be Student Affiliate of the American Chemical Society hereafter referred to as (SAACS).
Article II. MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
The membership of the SAACS shall include all students enrolled at the University of Northern Colorado for one (1) or more hours of academic credit as defined by University policy. Non-students may become honorary members of the club.
Article III. RIGHTS TO THE STUDENTS
All members of the SAACS shall be entitled to equal rights and privileges as set forth in this Constitution and its subsequent Bylaws.
Article IV. REPRESNTATIVE AUTHORITY OF THE STUDENT AFFILITATE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY
The official authority to represent the SAACS shall be vested in the Student Representative Council, hereafter referred to as SRC.
Article V. AUTHORITY
The SAACS will be subject to policies enacted by the University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees, Colorado law and United States law.
Article VI. MEMBERS OF SAACS
The elected officers shall consist of a (President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Safety Officer, PR Officer and Demo Officer)
Article VII. GENERAL DUTIES AND SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS OF THE SRC MEMBERS
All Officers shall uphold the Constitution of the SAACS.
Officers are required to be able to perform the duties as listed below, be members of the club in good standing and have joined the American Chemical Society as Associate members..
Section 1: President
The President shall
Act as the official representative of SAACS
Organize the club activities: Meetings, Demos, Charity Work, etc.
Interface with the University faculty and administration on behalf of the club
Create a strategy to recruit/retain club members
Section 2: Vice President
The Vice President shall assist the President in the performance of their duties
Take over for the President in the event that they are unable to perform their duties
Section 3: Treasurer
The Treasurer shall
Be responsible for balancing the clubs books
Approve club expenditures
Organize any fund raising activities
Section 4: Secretary
The Secretary shall
Take minutes during club meetings
Inform membership of activities via club email
Organize the club calendar
Maintain club e-mail lists
Section 5: Safety Officer
The Safety Officer shall
Be responsible for maintaining an inventory of chemicals
Be responsible for the safe use of said chemicals
Be responsible for the labeling, inventory and required documentation of all chemicals and safety gear
Section 6: PR Officer
The PR Officer shall
Design or approve all external publications of the club including but not limited to advertisements for club activities, informational publications, the club board, etc.
Interface and organize with any external organization regarding publications
Contact or contracts with external and internal groups regarding club events
Section 7: Demos Officer
The Demos Officer shall
Prepare or oversee the preparation of demonstrations
Research or experiment with new demonstrations
Organize qualified persons to perform demonstrations
Train club members for demonstrations
ARTICLE VIII. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS OF MEMBERS
Elected Officers of SAACS shall be members of the student body while entering or fulfilling the term of office.
ARTICLE IX. TERMS OF OFFICE
Each officer is selected on a yearly basis by a majority vote of the membership. Ties will be decided by the President of the previous year or by the Vice President in the case of a Presidential tie. A member who is up for the position must be available for a full year of service. In the event of an officer slot being vacated the elected officers will vote to fill that position on a temporary basis until the next regularly scheduled elections.
ARTICLE X. EQUAL OPPORTUNITY
The SAACS is an equal opportunity club all positions are open to any qualified persons (as outlined above).
ARTICLE XII. ADVISOR
Selection 1: The club selects its advisor from any qualified faculty member in the chemistry school. The advisor is chosen by the officers in a majority vote.
Section 2: The duties of the advisor are to offer guidance for the club, interface on behalf of the club to the administration and to offer council to the members.
ARTICLE XIII. ORDER OF SUCCESSION

ARTICLE XIV. AMENDMENTS
Amendments to the Constitution may be passed by a majority of the SAACS voting in a regular or special election.
ARTICLE XV. REVIEW
This Constitution shall be reviewed every year before chartering by all interested club members. Recommendations of the interested club members will be made to a leadership and approved by a 2/3 vote of the officers.
