Off-campus research and internships

Internships off-campus

General information

Internships provide junior and senior biology majors an opportunity to gain experience in professional environments, while also providing credit (BIO 492/592) towards graduation. Such opportunities allow students to apply classroom knowledge in a workplace environment. Oftentimes, internships can lead to future employment for those students who excel during the internship.

Pre- and Post-Internship Information

Students who arrange an internship must have a faculty supervisor who will assign grades for credit. In addition, the advisor will be the intermediary between the University and the Organization, and will thus have authority to enforce internship guidelines.

Summer research opportunities off-campus

General information

Many institutions provide paid summer research fellowships to highly qualified undergraduates. These programs are highly competitive, so having a strong background in field or laboratory experience is essential. These programs are often operated as recruitment tools for students interested in graduate or medical schools. Below is a list of some programs, but many others may be found elsewhere.
